Edited by: Angelus Damelon on 11/05/2007 12:44:34 Fantastic post Bein. The fact that this thread is on page 6, without a single well-supported counter to your arguments on why Titans are imbalanced, speaks volumes. While I may not agree with every proposed change, anyone with a brain should see that Titans need to be changed, perhaps significantly.
These things are supposed to be behemoths that drain the resources of entire empires, yet I'm betting that 20-25 will have been put into production by the end of 2007; my guess does include both Titans killed after logging off, and any killed while in production, because in both cases the resources were still expended.
What's worse is their description as an anti-blob tool. They are NOT an anti-blob tool.
If CCP wants to reduce blobs, they have to find a completely new mechanism for POS / sov warfare that does not create "events" -- POS mechanics are the single reason for game-breaking, lag-inducing blobs. When you're fighting to conquer or defend your space, the stakes are incredibly high. To then set a specific system and a specific time for an engagement is just asking for every single pilot involved to show up.
To break up blobs, you do not introduce an alpha-class ship that can blow them up at the press of a button, hourly, for less than the cost of a battlecruiser. You do not introduce a ship that cannot be killed in any remotely realistic scenario (except for massive, massive pilot error). You do not introduce a ship that, due to it's incredible offensive power and invulnerability, REQUIRES a preventative, full-scale attack to kill any POS suspected of building one. You do not introduce a ship for which the only possible counter is "run away."
I don't know how constellation sov will affect current sov warfare; perhaps they will fix this issue. But until CCP implements a sov system that allows sov to be challenged effectively by gangs of smaller sizes (small enough not to crush the servers), at variable (rather than pre-determined) times, while still giving defenders a reasonable advantage in the defense of their space, then blobs will remain necessary. Lag will remain in the game. And Titans will remain an overpowered alpha-class, mainly resulting in those blobs becoming capital blobs.
As others have said, Eve has always been an attractive MMO because it had a good balance between the advantages gained by being an older, high-SP player with the ability to contribute meaningfully as a newer player, through specialization of roles. It would be a shame to see that lost within 0.0 warfare.
EDIT: As regards the CAOD trolling that consistently gets dumped into this thread, not a single one has countered the very simple point that there are Coalition Titans (-A-, D2) and it's almost certain more are being built. Even BoB members have admitted that Titans are overpowered, even if they don't agree with Bein on the degree. If you can't counter Bein's post with clear, well-reasoned and supported arguments, keep your CAOD tinfoilhattery out of this thread. If you CAN counter his points with clear, well-reasoned arguments, then I'm sure Bein would love to hear them -- it's clear he put a lot of effort into this, and I'm sure he would consider such posts as valued input no matter who they came from.
